Two and a half years ago I delivered my daughter at St. Joe's. I had the sweetest nursing student there during my labor and through my delivery. I experienced a significant hemorrhage after birth and the sweet nursing student held my hand when I was scared and unsure of my outcome. She reassured me we were in this together and that she wasn't leaving me. She stayed by my side until things were stable.
Fast-forward 2½ years and I was at St. Joe's again to deliver my son. I was talking about this sweet nurse, Camille, to the staff and found out that she was now a L&D nurse there and working that day! I was able to request her as my nurse and was ecstatic about that! I had every confidence that my birth experience would be great with her! My birth story did not end up as I envisioned it, I think they rarely do, however, Camille ensured I was afforded patient autonomy in some of the decisions for my labor. She was patient with me and ensured she explained everything in detail. She remembered my complications from my daughter and mentioned it to the doctor on call (my OB was out that day) to ensure he was prepared for anything. He was able to pre-emptively treat me with no complications. Throughout my entire labor, she was diligent in watching me and baby. Not only was she phenomenal in her knowledge and execution, but she was also considerate in allowing me to do whatever made me comfortable. As long as she felt that baby and I were safe, she let me walk and change positions as necessary. For both my daughter and son she came up to Couplets the next day to check on me.
Ultimately, she became part of my birth story and lucky for me, she was great! I'm so thankful that God put her in my path to be able to provide me such an awesome experience.
I do not plan on having any more children, but I can promise I will recommend St. Joe's L&D and Camille to anyone I come across.
