She was in the middle of caring for her dying niece who was battling cancer when I took her class. Her niece lived over 6 hours away and even though she was in her final days, Prof. DePoy showed a commitment to her students by showing up for her students for every class and to ensure that her private matters did not interfere with the learning of her students. She also covered several clinical rotations for my group and would leave to Southern California each week as soon as we were done with clinical. This is extremely admirable, yet very sad that she had to do it this way, but if anything, I believe it shows her commitment to the future nurses, and that commitment make a meaningful difference in my academic journey.
