Camillia spoke to my husband and me with compassion and understanding.

I gave birth to my son when he was 34 weeks gestation. As a nurse, I was more than aware of the risks we may come across for a premature delivery. When my son was born, he was immediately brought to NICU. We spent 15 long mentally and physically exhausting days there. I stayed in a mom-pod that the NICU generously let me stay in – I did not leave my son’s side. Camillia was one of his first nurses, she gave me strength and courage to stay positive in these days. My son was losing weight and no one could give us an explanation, but just said: “give him time”. Camillia spoke to my husband and me with compassion and understanding. She let us express our concerns and would page the appropriate people, whether it was the residents or a lactation nurse. She was the only nurse that told me to sleep through the night for me to get some (much needed) rest and that she would feed him. She gave me countless hugs when the only thing I knew to do was cry. When he wasn’t latching properly to me and I was overwhelmed with emotions, she took my son and said, “let me feed him, we will get this little man to eat” and he did! She took her time with him, spoke to him, and cuddled him. Even when Camillia wasn’t our RN, she would come and help me with him and just stop by to get a check up on his status. When we were nearing discharge, she ensured that the RN (who was pulled from a different unit) did everything on our checklist. Camillia did the car seat test, gave him his vaccination – when she wasn’t assigned to him. We, thankfully, had her the last night we were there and she is the reason we got to discharge him home. Even writing this message, I am overwhelmed with emotions. Camillia is an amazing nurse. She kept a smile on her face for the entire 12 hours, she provides patient-family centered care. Thank you, Camillia. You have no idea how much your care helped our experience.
