The Camp Evangelista Station Hospital (CESH) Primary Health Care team is committed to delivering comprehensive healthcare services to military personnel, their families, and civilian dependents associated with the 4th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, situated in Camp Evangelista, Cagayan de Oro City. Their methodology incorporates preventive, promotive, and curative care to effectively address both acute health issues and long-term wellness objectives, notwithstanding the constraints imposed by limited resources and the rigorous demands of the military environment.
A fundamental responsibility of the team involves the execution of community-oriented health campaigns, which extend services to both military installations and remote deployment zones. These initiatives aim to educate soldiers and their families regarding disease prevention, the significance of regular health examinations, and overall health literacy. Principal activities encompass vaccinations, health education lectures, sanitary inspections, and Body Mass Index (BMI) monitoring.
On March 8, 2024, the team assumed a pivotal role in the Pneumococcal and Hepatitis B Vaccination, as well as the Infant and Child Immunization Drive, conducted during the Health and Wellness Fair 2024 at Montalvan Hall, 4ID Camp Evangelista. Military personnel stationed in remote locales are particularly susceptible to infectious diseases due to adverse conditions and inadequate healthcare access. To mitigate this vulnerability, vaccinations were administered to 62 beneficiaries, comprising 47 doses of Hepatitis B, four doses of Pneumococcal vaccine, and 11 doses of Infant and Child Immunizations. This initiative served to provide protection against pneumonia and liver diseases, thereby underscoring the significance of disease prevention in maintaining military readiness.
On April 23, 2024, the team organized a Reproductive Health Seminar for the 4th Signal Battalion, Army Signal Regiment. The seminar comprehensively addressed HIV/AIDS awareness, with a focus on early detection and prevention of transmission. Participants were acquainted with HIV counseling and testing protocols at CESH, proper condom utilization, and various family planning methodologies. Through educational lectures and information dissemination campaigns, the team empowered soldiers and their families with essential reproductive health knowledge, challenging stigmas and fostering responsible parenthood.
On June 28, 2024, a sanitary inspection was executed at the 4th Cavalry Battalion in the aftermath of an amoebiasis outbreak. The team scrutinized the galley, kitchen, food preparation areas, hallways, restrooms, and water sources. Kitchen personnel and food handlers were interrogated regarding their hygiene and waste disposal practices. The findings and recommendations were subsequently communicated to the commanding officer. These inspections facilitated the implementation of corrective measures, thereby significantly mitigating the risk of additional infections.
From January 21 to 24, 2025, the team administered flu and Pneumococcal vaccinations to personnel from the 901st, 401st, and 402nd Brigades in Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Butuan City, respectively. A cumulative total of 284 beneficiaries received vaccinations, consisting of 273 doses of Flu vaccine and 11 doses of the Pneumococcal vaccine. This initiative aimed to safeguard troops against respiratory illnesses, thereby ensuring their sustained operational efficacy. The team additionally conducts quarterly BMI monitoring to collect baseline health data essential for program planning and evaluation. Between February 10-17, 2025, 606 personnel underwent comprehensive assessments, which included measurements of blood pressure, waist-hip ratio, and BMI. These screenings are instrumental in identifying weight-related health risks, thereby enabling the provision of targeted nutritional guidance and physical training initiatives. Through preventive health education, immunization drives, and wellness programs, the CESH Primary Health Care team upholds excellence in military healthcare. Their dedication fosters a culture of resilience and proactive healthcare within the Army, ensuring soldiers remain fit and mission-ready while enhancing the well-being of military families and dependents.
