June 2026 Honoree
Camron Wayne, ADN, RN
I went to the emergency room with abdominal pain. Once I was back in the department, my nurse came into the room, and he introduced himself as Cameron. As soon as he walked into the room, he was amazing, and he got right to work. He spoke very kindly to me and told me every step of the way what was going to happen.
I had to drink contrast for a CAT scan, and I was very unsure that I would be able to do so due to my abdominal pain and my surgery prior to coming to the emergency room. Cameron had no doubt that I could do it, and he was my biggest cheerleader and knew that I could drink it. He kept checking on me to make sure that I was doing okay and was able to drink it.
We talked about Disney movies, and he told me that his favorite movie was Dinosaur, and I told him that I would have to watch it. After I was able to finish the contrast, he cheered me on for that. He took me to the CAT scan and waited for me to have my test.
When the test results came back, it was deemed that I needed to have an NG tube. To say that I was nervous is the least, and I was very unsure that I would be able to go through that, and he again cheered for me and assured me that I would be able to do it. He was very thorough on the directions and what I needed to do to have the NG tube placed.
After the tube was placed, he was amazing. He patted me on the back and told me what a good job that I had done.
Going to an emergency room can be a very scary experience, but Cameron made that experience so much better than I could have expected. He was a bright light on one of my roughest days. Everyone deserves to have a Cameron treat them when they come into the emergency room.
