Cancer Navigation is one of the best programs we have at Hendricks Regional Health. This group of nurses and support staff go out of their way to make the cancer journey as informed and bearable as possible. Cancer Navigators literally stand in the gap between patients and providers. When patients do not understand the plan of care, or fear overcomes them, when there are barriers to accomplishing care or patients need a listening ear, Cancer Navigators are the patient’s point of contact.
Recently, the Navigation team sought out a replacement for the American Cancer Society’s ‘Look Good Feel Better’ program which has been discontinued. The Navigation staff recognized this need and saw an opportunity to help patients. They found Shar of Shar’s Medical Supplies. Shar offers mobile services so patients do not have to travel too far. Shar’s mobile van comes to HRH to provide these services for the patient. Each participant is provided a personalized skincare and basic cosmetic kit. They receive lessons on ways to keep their skin healthy while they deal with the changes that occur with treatment as well as tips for applying cosmetics, wigs and turbans. The program is open to anyone with cancer or undergoing chemotherapy, radiation or other forms of cancer related treatment at HRH.
Navigation submitted a grant request to The HRH Foundation which was approved. This grant pays for the basic cosmetic kit and the consultation sessions for patients. The Navigation team is always looking out for our patients. Our patients benefit greatly from the care and concern our Navigation team provides them everyday.
Thank you for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
