Candace Fraser MacGregor, MSN, RN, RNC-NIC
Candace was the primary nurse for a patient in the NICU whose parents have lovingly and painstakingly made the decision to transition to comfort care.
While Candace has been an incredible nurse in the NICU for some time now, this was the first patient for whom she has been primary during a loss. She was responsive to the family's needs, offering check-ins at regular but respectful intervals, assisted the parents in bathing their child, and advocated for the parents' privacy during this impossible time.
Even when expressing her own sadness about this tragic loss, Candace's thoughts were with her patient's parents; she worried that they would see her tearing up or that her sadness would in any way take away from their last moments with their daughter.
Candace's selflessness today and care for this family will stay with them forever - I am positive of that.
I am proud to work with someone so kind and so moved by her work, and who honors the lives of her patients with as much respect and dignity as she demonstrated today.
