Candice is a float pool RN who works on post-partum/newborn nursery when needed. Today, Candice was caring for an infant that was here on day 7 of life due to some minor issues and was to be discharged today. This morning with her assessment, Candice heard a small heart murmur that had not been heard by other nurses or physicians. She notified the physician and an echocardiogram was ordered prior to discharge. The echocardiogram showed a mass in the infant's heart that will require very close follow up and possible surgical removal in Las Vegas. The cardiologist stated that this is very unusual and very good that this was caught so early, and that usually these masses are diagnosed when the infants present with heart failure.
This was an amazing catch by Candice that has possibly saved this infant's life and definitely saved this infant from heart failure. This is just one specific example of the kind of care and seriousness with which Candice takes her job as a nurse. She is extremely thorough and she is an excellent nurse. Candice is such a kind and compassionate person and we all love working with her. She deserves this award for the excellent work that she does every day.
