The definition of a nurse is someone who cares for the sick and injured. But not only did she care, she understood, was non-judgmental and she had both empathy and sympathy. I can't say that about the majority of the people in my life. Anytime I needed her, she was there. It did not matter what time it was, she did whatever possible to keep me as comfortable as possible and to make sure that I was okay. I have been a psychiatric patient for a number of years and around her, I felt safe, sane and protected. She wasn't just there medically, but as well as physically, emotionally and spiritually. And when I couldn't do anything but cry, she was there to wipe my tears and make me laugh. I will never forget her. EVER! The craziest part about it all is I've spent my entire life in the foster care system without a family. My nurse made me feel loved and right at home. This is not her job, it's her calling. And she answers it every day.
