Candice Patton models compassion every day in her role as clinical coordinator of this unit. The following story is an example of the effort she consistently applies to daily oversight for the patients on her unit.
Mrs. X, a terminally ill patient, expressed the desire to renew her wedding vows to her husband of many years. Her condition was weak, however, Candice worked with the palliative care, pastoral care and social services people to improve pain management so that a service could be conducted for her and her loving husband. Candice arranged flowers, photography, decorations and coordination of the patients' large family to attend this service that was held in the converted conference room on the unit that was filled to capacity. Candice arranged music and attended to every aspect to create a spiritual environment for these special nuptials. All of the patient's care providers as well as her family attended. Refreshments were served and the patient's family expressed their great satisfaction. Our patient and her husband were so very happy to have these special moments to recommit themselves to each other at the end of life.
This is Candice's nature. Patients first. No wish is too great to grant.
