Candy was an exceptional nurse! Mother's stroke was really bad and the doctors feared she would not fully recover or be able to swallow. Candy noticed my mother swallowing and encouraged further evaluation as mother had time to recover from her stoke. We needed to bring my mother home to North Carolina but couldn't afford the extremely high price to bring her in an ambulance. We were afraid to transport her ourselves fearing something would happen to her on the way. Candy continually encouraged us that we could pull over, call 911, and have assistance while on the way home with my mother. We brought my mother home to North Carolina without incident. Mother is in a nursing home getting OT, PT, and is transitioning from bed to chair and walking a little. She has a great appetite and is eating well. She is not blind as we once thought she would be. Her speech is much better, but she still struggles to communicate well with us.
Without Candy's confidence in mother and us, we may not have pushed to get mother where she is today. Candy told my mother that she believed she could get better. We will forever be grateful for Candy's "Never Give Up" attitude that helped us become fighters!
