Cara provided outstanding, compassionate care to a young woman who was dying of breast cancer. This patient had been in and out of MercyOne since July. By January, her cancer had spread throughout her body, and she was in significant pain. She was admitted to 3W for pain relief. Cara recognized that she was at the end of her life. Not only did Cara provide outstanding bedside care, but she also helped the patient transition to hospice care at home. The patient has 3 small children. Cara and her colleagues found a moment when the patient was awake to help her choose and purchase legacy gifts for her children at the hospital gift shop.
