Cara is more than a leader; she is a pillar of strength and positivity.
With deep gratitude and admiration, I nominate Cara Newborn, our unit director on 4 North, for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. In just six short months under her leadership, I have experienced a transformation not only in our unit culture but also in my growth as a nurse.
When I joined 4 North, Cara welcomed me with open arms, offering unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement. Her door is always open, not just physically but emotionally and professionally. She listens, advocates, and leads with both compassion and strength. Cara never misses a chance to lift her team. Whether it’s through recognition, a kind word, or simply a warm smile on a tough day. She makes every nurse feel seen and valued.
With Cara’s mentorship, I accomplished several career milestones I once thought were distant goals. I earned my Med-Surg BC, advanced to RN3 on the clinical ladder, and am working on my NE-BC now, and have been recognized by my colleagues and patients. The achievements were made possible by Cara’s belief in me and her consistent encouragement to aim higher. She has a remarkable gift for seeing potential in others and nurturing it with patience and passion.

Cara Newborn has been a phenomenal leader since starting on this floor. I am a new grad nurse and was very anxious to start on this floor. Cara has made me feel welcomed, encouraged me to continue to push myself, and has made me grow my confidence. I could not recommend a better leader as a new grad. Because of her, it has been very clear this floor on 4 North is where I want to be.
