October 2024 Honoree
Cara S Hockersmith-Arauz, RN
Cara is my PACT RN who is so incredibly dedicated to patient care.
Last week, our team received a secure message from a veteran reporting some mild chest pain. Cara called this patient back right away and triaged the veteran appropriately. This patient went to the ED and required transfer to a different hospital for a CABG! In short, Cara's triage saved this veteran's life.
Cara also handles emergent situations with a lot of grace as well. A veteran walked in two weeks ago complaining of hematemesis - she appropriately directed him to the ED after several emergency rooms discharged him. The patient ended up having a perforated duodenal ulcer requiring surgery. He is now doing much better thanks to Cara as well.
I have many stories regarding how impactful Cara is at the VA.
