One day, late in the morning I experienced chest pains and shortness of breath. I went to the emergency room and while I was in the ER I had a heart attack. I had a cardiac catheterization to remove a clot and had a stent inserted and ended up in the hospital for four days. When I got home, I received a call from Mercy's Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic to schedule a consultation. From the initial meeting and through every visit EACH nurse; Lisa, Brenda, Amy, Missy, Nora to the part-time nurses, Jackie, Jenny, and Lana treated me as a special individual with genuine concern and not just another patient. They took the time to learn about not only my cardiac health but all other health issues, my life, and my family. I learned about them and their families too. This "special friend" atmosphere happened every visit even though they were only part of my life for 45 to 60 minutes each visit. From the moment I walked in the door, they greeted me like family, with a smile, a pat on the back, heck even a few hugs. Their friendly interaction while walking on the treadmill or climbing on the stepper, made the process pleasant and was a whole lot better than watching the Cardiac Informational Videos. As I approached "Graduation" I could see the excitement on their faces as I got better and stronger. They shared that excitement with me. On "Graduation" day they were genuinely excited, yet saddened to see me leave the family. All the nurses of the Mercy Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic are DAISY Nurses!
