The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) was officially opened in 2014. Since its inception, the unit has received multiple accolades for the team's ability to consistently deliver high quality and exceptional customer service. At a foundational level, transformational leadership in the department has instilled a positive, transparent culture with a flattened hierarchy. The CVICU is a highly reliable team, and the team serves as leaders in a medical center on the journey to achieve Magnet designation.
The CVICU was recognized by multiple patients and families, one stated:
"Throughout our six days in the hospital, there were other families I'd pass in the hallways and waiting rooms who were not so lucky. However, because we were blessed with the extraordinary team of nurses, doctors, therapists, and technicians in the CVICU, my dad has resumed much of his normal life again, walking over a mile each day and singing karaoke with his friends and family. Our family cannot fully express how profoundly grateful we are for the invaluable gift of my father's life and the cherished blessing of bringing him home."
The CVICU is a remarkable team and they exemplify the VALUES of Kaiser Permanente Nursing. They provide EXCELLENT care, with INTEGRITY and COMPASSION; they are TEAM players, exuding PROFESSIONALISM, and they consistently keep the PATIENT AND FAMILY IN THE CENTER of everything that they do. The CVICU at Fontana Medical Center is truly an extraordinary team.
