During my stay with the Hospital of Central CT, Caren demonstrated compassionate care by taking the time to help me breastfeeding my son. She took the time to sit with me and provide guidance and assistance when she noticed my son was not eating well and losing weight fast. She recognized his hunger cues and suggested multiple positions for me to feed my son and when he was still showing signs of hunger, she suggested we supplement.
As a first-time mom, her compassion and guidance were a Godsend. She comforted and reassured me that it was OK, that my plan and goals for exclusively breastfeeding for at least the first 4 weeks wasn't a sign of defeat by supplementing. My husband and I put our trust in Caren, and it if wasn't for her I may have struggled once we took the baby home and our first week as parents wouldn't have been as great as it was.
She provided me with the peace that we were doing the right thing considering all the weight my son was losing. I only wish she was working earlier so that her intuition could have helped me sooner.
I feel she went above and beyond to help us. She is great at her job. It may have been a simple suggestion to some, but to me this was everything.
After spending 48 unsuccessful hours hooked up to an IV of Pitocin, having very uncomfortable experiences with some of the residents in labor and delivery, then having a traumatic Cesarean procedure where I felt a pocket of pain during surgery, the entire labor experience hadn't been so positive and great but ending it all with Caren really did help me keep focus and care for my son and do what was best for him. Caren is a true DAISY Nurse.
