Cari Price, RN
Cari Price is the Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator at the Avera Cancer Center in Aberdeen. She supports breast cancer patients from the beginning of their diagnosis to completion of therapy, guiding the care she gives with knowledge and compassion every step of the way.
Cari bridges the gaps between providers within several specialties, nurses, and patients. She uses her knowledge to put together presentations for each breast cancer patient at Breast Conference and afterward takes the corresponding recommendations to the appropriate provider to facilitate care in an efficient manner. She puts the patients first by advocating to ensure the process of diagnosis and treatment moves along in an expedited, thorough way. She goes above and beyond with every patient she helps manage by making herself easily accessible. She reaches out to patients after their treatments to follow up on side effects, offering ideas to help manage and communicating with the provider when more is needed to ensure their every need is being met.
When patients come to the clinic for office visits, she eagerly takes the patients she supports, which gives them comfort and continuity of care. If she is unable to be at the clinic appointment, she often leaves outlines for coworkers, which helps ensure the patient’s needs still are met and small details aren’t missed despite her absence. Cari helps assemble new patient cases, which assists the providers in staying organized. She isn’t afraid to have difficult conversations, always considering what is best for the patient. She is always willing to jump in to help wherever needed in any department. She does all of this with an uplifting attitude and smile.
I recently had the honor to witness a patient interact with Cari. The patient reached a milestone in her journey and was able to ring the bell after she completed radiation therapy for breast cancer. I heard the patient say to Cari, “I couldn’t have done it without you!” Witnessing what an impact Cari made on this patient was affirmation of what I already knew; Cari is an exceptional nurse.
