My mother who is 86 years old has been recuperating from a colon resection and ostomy bag creation. She suffered a massive stroke and was transferred from rehabilitation back to Kimmel when she was found to have diverticulitis and needed an emergency operation. Many nurses have cared for my mother and they were all great. One of her nurses, Carina Bacha, proved to be not just great, but amazing! She went beyond her call of duty caring for my mother. Many times, she didn't take her lunch break, nor went home when her shift was over, unless she made sure that my mother had everything she needed and was comfortable.

One time, my sister found Carina massaging our mother's forehead because my mother complained that she had a bad headache. I also found her to be vigilant about my mother's condition, calling doctors when something is off and it turns out that my mother does need medical attention. She also made sure to give my mother the cupped hand therapy to her back to loosen her mucus and help her breathe better. I noticed that this activity really takes Carina's energy, making her perspire and almost breathless afterward. I feel that Carina's excellence and devotion to her work shouldn't go unnoticed, and so, on behalf of my mother and siblings, I nominate her for the DAISY Award.
