A few moments later, I did talk to her about my nightmare. She just listened, and that's all I needed. Just her presence was what I needed.
I was admitted for observation of pain and monitoring of blood clots in my right leg and knee. I suffer from PTSD from my time overseas. I woke up in the middle of a nightmare not knowing where I was. Carina calmed me down right away and reassured me that I was safe and everything was OK. I sat up and pulled myself together. Carina pulled a chair over in the room and just sat there, eventually saying if I wanted to talk, she was there to listen or just to sit there. A few moments later, I did talk to her about my nightmare. She just listened, and that's all I needed. Just her presence was what I needed. It was not part of her duties or even expected, but she went above and beyond to make sure I was OK. The next evening when she came on her shift, I made sure to thank her and tell her how much I appreciated the time and effort she gave to me.
