December 2025 Honoree
Carissa Zamora, BSN,RN
Carissa's nomination came from a patient. The patient wrote: "Carissa knew that I was scared about having surgery, and she talked to me about her homeland in the Philippines. When another nurse came to start my IV and my veins started popping, Carissa told me to squeeze her hand as hard as I needed to. She kept me warm with blankets, Bair Hugger, and sympathetic looks, but most of all, she gave me concern, comfort, and empathy. I was not just a patient passing through; I truly felt cared for. Another patient wrote, "Carissa was amazing! She saw that I was in pain when starting an IV. She kept saying "I'm so sorry" even though it wasn't her fault. She got a doctor to come in, and it was the same issue, but she held my hand through it. We talked on a personal level, and we both like music, and she was singing my name. It was so personal to me!"
Thank you, Carissa, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
