My father was admitted to Kaiser San Rafael ICU on Fridayafter being transferred from Memorial hospital where he had spent the previous 5 days. Carl was the nurse on duty that night. For the next 3 nights, we spent hours waiting to see if my dad would regain consciousness. Carl went above and beyond each day to bring care and compassion to our family while we were going through emotional turmoil. It was a cup of coffee or tea, an ear to listen, a warm blanket, kind words, a hug, and numerous other gestures that let us know he cared about our family and my dad. He told us in detail everything he could about what was going on and what he was doing. We only spent a short period in ICU as my dad passed away three days after admission, but Carl made the entire process just a little bit easier. We cannot thank him enough for how he took care of us and of my wonderful dad during his last days. He clearly deserves this award; he is an amazing person and nurse with a compassionate heart.
