Before starting a busy shift on Tuesday, June 19th, Sarah Fields, CNO, awarded Carla Brimm the DAISY Award. Nursing peers in the orthopedic unit proudly nominated Carla for this award for outstanding compassionate care. For Carla, being in one unit in one hospital is more than an accomplishment, it’s a calling. This August will be Carla’s 30th year as a NKCH orthopedic nurse. She is unable to count the new nurse graduates and new employees she has mentored and trained. A nursing peer stated, “her time management skills as well as her orthopedic expertise are legendary.” Another colleague feels, “Carla is a very knowledgeable and caring nurse. She is my ‘go-to’ person when I have questions because she knows ortho like the back of her hand.” Carla has participated in several unit moves as the hospital has grown to become the Northland Orthopedic Center of Excellence.
