Dr. Carla Smith’s enthusiasm for both teaching and nursing practice is truly infectious, and it plays a huge role in inspiring and motivating her students.
Dr. Carla Smith is an extraordinary teacher who goes above and beyond for her students. She takes the time to ensure we feel comfortable and supported, not only with the material but also within the classroom environment. She stays after school on Fridays to offer additional support and is always there with a smile, eager to teach and check in with us. She genuinely cares about our well-being, making sure we feel supported both academically and personally. Carla also shares her own experiences as a nurse, giving us real-world insights that help us better understand the challenges and rewards of the profession. Whether it's bringing in snacks, hosting pizza parties, or staying after school to help, she goes out of her way to make us feel valued and part of a community.
In addition, Dr. Smith goes the extra mile by inviting former students and colleagues to share their experiences in class. This gives us the chance to learn from a variety of perspectives and gain a broader understanding of the different paths in nursing, as well as practical insights that extend beyond the classroom. Overall, Dr. Smith is a role model. Her care, dedication, and kindness make her truly deserve the DAISY Award.
Dr. Smith demonstrated true leadership when she shared with the class how she testified at the New Hampshire State House, advocating for the mask mandate in schools during the pandemic. This shows her commitment to the health and safety of the community, but also highlights how she cares about the well-being of students.
