Carla Shurtz, RN

Carla went above and beyond with every interaction she had with L and our whole family (siblings included). She is one of a kind. After the doctors rounded, she would come back into the room, sit down next to L, and communicate with her what the doctors said at a 13-year-old level that she could understand. She asked questions about L’s life and made a connection. She spoke from her heart, and we all noticed. She joked and was fun and playful along with being attentive, thorough, and informative. She took the time to brighten our days and explain everything in detail. She truly embraced the entire family as we stayed and visited our daughter/sister. She is a blessing for anyone staying in peds, and MercyOne is lucky to have a nurse like Carla.
