A few months after discharge, Carleen saw us at Walmart and tapped me on my shoulder to say hello, asked about my sister, and went to the car to speak to her. She still remembers me after two months… truly amazing.
My sister asked me to write this as her caregiver. My sister was a patient at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center for a severe sinus infection along with other complications for 3 days. After spending about 6 hrs, in the ED we finally go into a room. That day, I witnessed a nurse that showed what a caring and professional nurse should be.
Carleen showed nothing but the best that anyone I have ever encountered during my time of having interactions with different nurses. I was a caregiver for my mom for almost six years and there have been lots of nurses that have crossed my path, but never like Carleen. Immediately after getting in our room, Carleen came in and introduced herself, indicating she would be my sister’s nurse. She was courteous, professional, caring, and gave us warm blankets because we had stayed in the ED for such a long time, and it was a little cold.
Immediately IVs were started and she explained what she was giving for her treatment. We were given instructions on how to order food and she gave me a guest plate since the cafeteria was closed. She made sure I had proper bedding since I was staying with my sister during the time she was in the hospital. Her personality was great along with being professional. She seemed both like our nurse as well as a friend, an angel sent by God, such a blessing to us in our hour of need.
During the course of our stay, we shared little, short stories about our families and Carleen's stories seemed to fit right in with ours. You are blessed to have this nurse at your hospital.
