Carlene always makes a special connection with the patients and families. She includes them in the planning of their care and does an excellent job of giving them education. She works well with the healthcare team to meet patient and family needs and makes them feel comfortable. Carlene consistently goes above and beyond for her patients. The last situation that clearly demonstrates how wonderful she is, and well deserving of this award, happened a day ago. We have a patient who is dying and in hospice care, and who had a small surge of energy. She told Carlene how she would just love to eat Sauerkraut one last time. Carlene called dietary and because sauerkraut is not a normal item in the menu, they didn't have it. The next day Carlene was scheduled off. However, I witnessed Carlene coming in on her day off with home cooked sauerkraut for her patient. Carlene stated she was not going to let her patient pass without letting her get her one small request. Odd food request, nonetheless, however, nurse Carlene made it happen. She is simply an angel on earth, and Carlene deserves recognition.
