Carlos was assigned to a patient, a 35 year old with a terminal brain cancer. Carlos demonstrated extraordinary clinical assessment and thinking skills recognizing that the patient was in pain. Carlos went above and beyond in coordinating compassionate care for this patient contacted the on call physician to provide the adequate medical support. But recognizing the spiritual needs of the case he contacted the chaplain on call who came in to provide spiritual counseling. Carlos provided physical and spiritual comfort to the patient and family. This is a perfect example of not only holistic care but the real world application of the COMFORT THEORY.
