Carlos epitomizes the image of a professional nurse. He always goes above and beyond for his team in both flexibility and kindness. Carlos has a gentle compassionate interaction with his patients admired by both his teammates and physicians. He created study guides for the department and orientation binders for any new onboarding nurse and took the initiative to revise the Cath Lab emergency drug/invasive guide so that it was easy to read during a crisis. This dedication and commitment to ensuring that the safest care is provided to our patients became very evident during the recent COVID Pandemic. Even though Carlos had not worked the inpatient setting for 5 years, he was one of the first to volunteer to help the inpatient area and worked several shifts on DOU. The pandemic also contributed to a staffing crisis sometimes leaving Carlos and his DOU colleagues out of ratio. Not once did he complain. He is the first to volunteer regardless of the need. His dedication did not stop there when the call from the corporate office went out for help with the Detroit facility. He immediately stepped forward and said, "Boss I will go to Detroit".
Recently we had a COVID STEMI case come in late in the day around 5:30 pm but even though Carlos was scheduled to be in the holding room and was about to clock out when he observed his colleagues racing about as the patient arrested on the Cath Lab table. Carlos put on his procedure gear, went in the procedure room, and proceeded to assist. The case took an extra 5 hours and the team was grateful that Carlos stepped in to help. Carlos is a true DAISY Nurse!
