Below is the letter from Carlos manager after he received several accolades from patients:
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Mr. Carlos Ruiz for the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Carlos joined the CICU team just over a year ago in the critical care transition program. In this short time he has gone above and beyond my expectations as a manager and I am incredibly grateful to have him as part of my team. He provides
exemplary care to his patients, supports and praises his peers, and continually seeks to expand
his knowledge.
Every day Carlos arrives to work with a smile on his face. He is pleasant to anyone he comes in contact with and always makes time for his patients and families. I have seen him listen to patients for hours just because they need someone to talk with, escort lost family members to the right location, and find ways to keep a stressful day lighthearted and fun. I don't know if Carlos is capable of having a bad day.
Recently Carlos was charged with caring for a family member of one of our own NKCH employees. This family has made incredible efforts to ensure that Carlos is recognized for the care he provided. While unfortunately this family lost their loved one, they have persevered through their grief to ensure that he is aware of the positive impact he had on all of them. From Carlos's view, I am sure he feels he was doing his job and nothing different than he would do
any other day. This is what makes him special.
