Most importantly, Carlotta has been a leader we can go to when our outside lives need our attention. She listens and supports us.
On behalf of the 12 East staff, I would like to nominate our manager, Carlotta Reynolds, for the prestigious DAISY Award. Carlotta has been the beloved leader of our unit for over 25 years. She expects her staff to do the best job possible every day. We know that she always has our backs and is a fierce advocate for us.
Many times, she has stood up to a physician and spoken up in meetings to support us. Her office door is always open. Numerous times, I have texted her at home about situations that have happened during my work time. She has never made me feel like I shouldn't have contacted her. With genuine concern, she addresses my issues and helps me problem-solve. You can often find her on the unit with her white lab jacket on, answering the phone and call lights.
Carlotta ensures our unit works towards improving quality indicators. She is active in auditing and helping us identify trends. A few years ago, we did a project on CHG bathing for CLABSI prevention. With her support, it took on a life of its own and became a standard for care in the hospital and a national presentation. Carlotta pushes her staff to be the best version of themselves. Many nurses who have worked for her have gone on to become managers, NPs, Directors, and CNOs - of Swedish and other organizations. She encourages certification and expanding our professional capacities.
There are many examples of staff that have gone on to do amazing things because of her mentoring. During evaluations, she is able to recognize each staff member's individual strengths. Personally, I became involved in Shared Leadership at a campus level with her prompting. Most importantly, Carlotta has been a leader we can go to when our outside lives need our attention. She listens and supports us. She does everything she can to allow us the time off work to take care of ourselves and our families. We take this for granted, I think, but it is much appreciated. I can think of no one who has affected my nursing career as much as Carlotta Reynolds has. With her example, I have learned to be a better nurse and person. Her leadership at 12 East is truly a legacy, and she upholds all of Sweden's values. She has always celebrated as our staff have won and been nominated. It is her time to be honored.
