Not only did Carly display professionalism, but she also did the NHS proud. In my opinion, she went above and beyond for her patients.
Carly implanted my heart loop monitor, leading a team of two other nurses. On introducing herself, her caring, compassionate character was evident. In the pre-op, she was very attentive to my description of my medical history and told me how she would proceed accordingly. Stating what would happen, in what order, the duration, and what she could and couldn’t do for local anaesthetic. All happened exactly as she had said, with her team acting as one, in the same way. Nothing was too much trouble. That is only the start of my nomination.
While Carly was attending to me pre-procedure, the patient in the next bed had just had his monitor implanted and his control device set up by the relevant nurse. He told her that he sensed another blackout was happening, then immediately blacked out. The nurse immediately summoned the team. Carly acted immediately to administer a recovery procedure closely followed by her team. Not only did she work on the patient, but she was also giving commands to the team, obviously to a set procedure. Everything was so well carried out accordingly. I was truly humbled. While working on the patient, she called for a doctor to be summoned, and a crash team was summoned. Thankfully, the patient recovered consciousness, and Carly informed him of what would happen next. She acted at all times in the same manner she had with me.
On completion of primary care of the patient in the next bed, Carly came to me full of compassion and understanding of my situation, as the next for a heart loop monitor implantation, as she asked me to accompany her for the procedure. She was so reassuring and went back to my wife, saying, in the same manner as she acted with me, that I may elect not to proceed. However, after witnessing a loop heart monitor, Carly’s team and the doctor in action, I had every confidence to proceed. Carly did not initiate my procedure before fully ensuring I was confident to do so. Everything went as she had outlined. Her post op manner did not differ in any way from before. I subsequently went home with no regrets about having my implant.
Not only did Carly display professionalism, but she also did the NHS proud. In my opinion, she went above and beyond for her patients. Her modus operandi of all of the qualities of a brilliant, confident nurse and manager shone through. As was displayed by the team she led. Nothing phased her. Her natural personality was very evident.
I must again praise Carly’s team; they all took their lead from her in every aspect. The entire team had a wonderful rapport with the patients and themselves. Always in action as one under Carly’s leadership
Please take it as read that all of the characteristics that this award requires, Carly displayed them all and more. As you can determine, I am proud and humbled to nominate Carly for this award.
