Carly Vreugde, RN, CCRN

A patient was admitted to the ICU with severe agitation, with a history of autism and other psychiatric disorders. The doctor expected to find a difficult-to-manage patient, but instead found the patient ambulating with Nurse Vreugde, engaged in conversation. Carly also printed cartoon characters for the patient to color while he sat with her at the nurses' station. The patient did not require any additional sedatives previously needed. He was calm, spending the day chatting and coloring with Nurse Vreugde. Her compassion was inspiring to witness.
