Carmela Mombaerts is one of the kindest, devoted and most sincere individuals in our nursing program. At Roanoke Landing, she organized self-care packets for all our residents that included calendars, coloring book/activity books, lotions and the like. She also organized a clothing drive through her church and brought in several bags of clothes and shoes to donate to the residents at the nursing home who had little to no family to provide them with these items. One of the things I like about this student is that she takes the time to really listen to her patients and makes that as high a priority as her assessment. Then she uses what she learns from talking to her patient to connect with them on another level, going beyond basic bed-side nursing. I would have residents request her each week as she was so beloved by them. She is always considerate of her classmates, respectful to faculty, a team player, present in class without any problems, and liked by all her peers. As a matter of fact, this student has a perfect attendance record for classroom lectures.  I had this student in clinical and she was professional, communicated well with her patient, primary nurse and clinical instructor. She took time with her patients and worked hard to meet their needs from the information she gathered during her talks with them.
