Carmelo Del Valle, ICU Nurse, is very compassionate and caring for his patients. During rounds, he is always mentioned by patients or family members that they feel at peace and good when he is their nurse.

One family told me that the patient was complaining of a lot of abdominal discomfort. He went in the room to assess the patient and the NGT. It took him about 30 min to figure out what was wrong with the NGT and the patient did not have to be medicated unnecessarily to relieve the discomfort.

He is the peacemaker in the unit. When there is a problematic / demanding patient in the unit, we assign it to him and the patient's attitude changes after he is with the patient for an hour. He has the ability to have a personal connection with the patients. He is also commended by the charge nurses for always helping his coworkers.
