Mel (Carmelo) identified that a patient who had a prognosis of 3 to 6 months was supposed to go home with her family, and was discharged without pain medication and without nausea medication. He contacted the MD who said that he was not going to prescribe pain medication and that the patient could go home. Mel then called palliative care, who had already gone home for the night. He then contacted the on-duty administrator in advocacy for this patient. Eventually, the patient stayed an extra night in order to have access to the medications and equipment needed for a safe and comfortable discharge.
