Carmen provides holistic care to patients utilizing transcultural nursing. She understands and embraces the diversity of her patients, patient's families, and team members. Carmen utilizes the uniqueness of each stakeholder for the best outcome. She embraces the patient plan of care and takes the time to call families at home to provide updates, promoting patient and family centered care.
Carmen is quality focused and a very strong patient advocate. She picks up subtle changes on patients (whether hers or not). Her team members trust her judgment and will frequently resource her about their patients. Dr. S complemented Carmen for picking up on a new onset afib and cardiac conditions for which the patient was quickly transferred to a higher level of care.
We recently had a patient who was believed not to have family and he was too confused to make the decision for scheduled intervention. Carmen's advocacy spirit kicked in and she kept digging until she found the patient's provider who gave information about the patient's brother so decisions can be made.
As a clinical coach, Carmen is loved by the entire nurse residents who she precepts. She develops relationships with them on and off work. Carmen is a great team player and she is very good at recognizing her team partners for a job well done. She takes the time to write to the unit leadership for their recognitions. She has truly embraced her team leader role and has a pulse on what is going on with every patient on her wing. Carmen is a highly valuable member of the 10th Floor team.
