When I ask my colleagues to describe Carmen, adjectives like “workhorse,” “backbone of the Medical Unit,” and “Strong and Dependable” are how she is described by her peers. She is a passionate advocate not only for the patients on medical but also for the nursing team. She always escalates concerns and huddles with the staff, and she is the first nurse in the room when patients have complaints or start acting out. She serves as a resource for her department, and she never complains.

It is hard to pick a single example of why Carmen should receive a DAISY Nurse Leader Award; her contributions are cumulative, and she outperforms herself daily. She serves as chair of the CEPE committee and as a unit supervisor. She is an RN 5, reserved for the best of the best in nursing. She is always quietly running the medical unit behind the scenes, and as she never seeks the spotlight, it is easy to overlook just how involved she is and all she does for her unit and staff. Please recognize and reward Carmen for her overwhelming contributions to medical as a nurse and a leader.
