It is our privilege to nominate Carol Bloomfield for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award in recognition of her exemplary leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to Veterans, staff, and the Chillicothe VA Medical Center.
Carol leads with strength and compassion, inspiring respect, collaboration, and professional growth. She personally invests in each member of her team—encouraging educational achievement, supporting advanced certifications, mentoring future nurse leaders, and ensuring everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Her open-door policy and approachable nature create a supportive environment where staff are empowered to voice ideas, seek guidance, and grow.
During times of change, such as the implementation of the federal Electronic Health Record, Carol’s calm and resourceful leadership has provided reassurance and stability. She celebrates successes, recognizes milestones, and comforts staff during personal hardships—fostering strong morale throughout the department.
Carol’s mentorship is deeply personal and impactful. She has shepherded colleagues through career transitions, precepted students pursuing advanced degrees, and recognized potential in others that they may not have seen in themselves. Her guidance has been crucial to the growth of many nurse leaders across the organization.
