I had come to the hospital with my father to visit my mother who was getting readied for surgery. My father said let's go down to the cafeteria and get something to eat. My father who is 86 years old had to go to the bathroom shortly after we sat down with our meal. I started to notice that he had been in there for some time, as I was getting ready to go check on him your nurse, Carol Boutwell, who was on her lunch break at time came over to my table and said to me he's been in there a long time. I said yes he has, I was just get ready to go check on him, at that point she and I went over to the bathroom. I knocked on the door. What had happened was my father had an accident before he could make it to the bathroom, and he had soiled himself.
Carol told me she would go get him some items to clean up and something else to wear. Later she returned with those items. At that point she asked me if l would like for her to go in and clean him up. My father told me he would be okay that he didn't need any help.
Carol was on her lunch break, she didn't have to get up and check on my father, she didn't have to go get him the necessary things to clean himself up and she certainly didn't have to offer to go in and clean him up herself. This really struck me as someone who has definitely gone beyond the call of duty. If anyone should be given the DAISY Award it should be Carol.
Every time that I have visited your hospital each and every person there has treated me and my parents with outstanding care and concern. This reflects a great deal on the management and on the personnel and the overall environment of your hospital. The reason I'm sending this on Carol's behalf is I was thoroughly impressed with the overall operation, Especially with Carol.
