Recently having the opportunity to work closely with Carol, I have come to realize that she demonstrates a very high level of performance during patient care: exhibiting true compassion for her patients and her profession.
Carol goes above and beyond to be a true team player, whether it is driving an extra twenty miles to assist a nurse that needs help with a dressing or assessment, you can always count on her being there.
Patient, end stage heart failure, calls; his defibrillator is experiencing frequent activations and would like it turned off. After lengthy conversations with family, doctor, and Boston Scientific, it was after hours and Boston Scientific asked a nurse to be present. Carol drove back to the patient’s home where medical and emotional support was rendered compassionately to all involved. The patient three days later passed away. Carol attended the viewing to again offer emotional support, offering meals and anything they may have needed.
This patient also had a PD drain, which Carol took the opportunity to use EBP and educate all other staff nurses in caring for such which made the family realize that she is a true professional nurse and a real team player.
