She always showed compassion and care. We ended our day with her hugs, warmth, and care.
Carol was our father’s Hospice nurse. Carol and his social worker, were loved as soon as they walked in to meet me and my little sister, and our father. We brought him home on a Wednesday and they both called to introduce themselves and came on Thursday. The connection was immediate and the care, love, and concern immediately came through from Carol. On Friday after speaking with our father, Carol and the social worker showed up and presented our father with a USMC Veteran's plaque, pin, blanket, and presented him so warmly; any military member would have been proud. We videotaped it and took his photo with them and at that moment he was our father again. The shine of pride in his eyes flowed from our eyes as we looked on. Our father went down quickly Saturday and Sunday and Carol helped comfort us and assure us that he wasn’t in pain. He wanted to let go and as his closest caregivers, we needed to say, “It’s ok, Daddy.” She always showed compassion and care. Monday, she came early when we called and let us know he would pass. Within a few hours of us telling him our goodbyes, he peacefully passed in his home. She went the extra mile as we sat with his body to contact the funeral home, made calls, cleaned up items no longer needed, and let us know we did everything we were supposed to. We ended our day with her hugs, warmth, and care; exactly what a nurse is supposed to be and stand for.
