Carol’s 36-year tenure in healthcare includes services as an Emergency Department/Trauma Registered Nurse, Quality Improvement Advice Nurse, Patient Safety Officer, Hospital Quality/Risk/Patient Director, and now, the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Regional Director for Risk Management and Patient Safety. Throughout her roles, she consistently demonstrates visionary leadership, a trailblazer spirit, and a go-to attitude with an unwavering commitment to patient and staff safety. 
 
Carol serves as the subject matter expert in the Risk Management portfolio and maintains a current pulse on the healthcare industry to ensure best practices are considered and implemented to achieve the best outcomes. She doesn’t settle for the status quo and tirelessly spearheads Regional projects to enhance and optimize programs among our 21 medical centers. Carol’s situational awareness of the organization and industry is complemented by a high attention to detail. This resonates in the oversight and management of risk and safety events. The program diligently provides consultation on hundreds of events annually while also seeking patterns and trends among learnings and contributing factors for organizational sharing and harm prevention. 
 
Carol achieves all this while staying customer service-focused and creating a safe environment for honest discussion and feedback among her team, medical center leaders, and key stakeholders. Whether leading a Situation Team Management meeting about an NCAL-wide safety concern, seeking user feedback on workflows, or communicating policy changes, individuals speak up, share their unique perspectives, and verbalize appreciation for feeling heard.
