From the moment I entered the EP Lab to start the paperwork for my pacemaker implant, both Carol & B were by my side. Carol noticed I was cold and immediately brought me a couple of warm blankets. Carol understood my modesty and when I requested to use the restroom, she covered me up and stayed by my side the entire time. Carol was gentle with starting my I.V. and kept checking in on me while we were waiting to go back to the OR.
When all parties were ready to go, Carol noticed that a medication that was requested "stat" from the pharmacy had not arrived. She wanted me to have this before going back and made the necessary calls and then apologized profusely, which wasn't needed, but she wanted to assure me that I was in the best hands and they wanted me to have this medication prior to starting.
While we were waiting on the pharmacy, B was by my bedside and held my hand. I can't tell you enough, how just that personal touch meant to me. The staff, I could tell was antsy to go back and waiting for the medication, probably seemed long to arrive, but with Carol staying by my side talking with me and B holding my hand, time passed quickly; and then we were off.
After the procedure, I noticed that the staff cleaned my surgical area very nicely. I have had surgery before and came out a mess. My dressing was neat and tidy, and I wasn't "wet".
Carol and B were top notch. My experience in the EP Lab was wonderful, the lighting wasn't glaring/bothersome, and I was kept warm and I felt safe. Excellent Care, Respect, and Empathy.
