Carol Wise is an ideal candidate for the DAISY Award because of her dedication to this organization, its values and mission. She is a true role model for the Nursing profession as she always works collaboratively with all disciplines in every aspect of her job, and keeps the best interest of the patient in the forefront of her endeavors. This is epitomized in her quest to keep patient safety as a consistent focus throughout the organization. Dayton Children's is recognized throughout the state due to Carol’s participation in the state-wide pediatric collaborative in patient safety.
Often times, physicians have recommended problems be taken to Carol because "she'll know what to do to resolve the issue." Additionally, in her role, she works tirelessly to maintain the highest standards of quality patient care across all levels of this organization. This is one reason that Dayton Children’s does so well during Joint Commission surveys. She routinely exceeds expectations in her role as Director. If one of her departments is short staffed, you’ll find Carol rolling up her sleeves and jumping in to help out. It’s this quality and many others that endears her to us and earns our respect for her leadership.
Carol genuinely cares about each and every person who works for her and expresses this through her words and actions. She sent individualized letters of appreciation to each of our families, telling them how much she appreciated us as part of her team. Our families were blown away as this is something they had never experienced before (nor had we)!
