June DAISY Award Winner
Carole Jones, Pediatrics
Nominated by: Bonnie Davis-Grunseth, RN
Jump on Carole’s ‘TRAIN OF EXCELLENCE in Patient Care’. Carole is a thinker, a doer, a hugger, a teacher, an actor and she can make you laugh even if you don’t want too. She has a blend of qualities needed to deliver safe, compassionate and exceptional care to our Pediatric Patients and Families.
On a daily basis Carole demonstrates her knowledge of developmental milestones for her patients and how to deal with families in crisis…the therapeutic touch. She volunteers to be assigned to our more complicated patients and those requiring end-of-life care. Twice in the past three months she has changed her assignment so she could care for a terminal patient and his family. She embraces the child, the family and even some of our staff, to help with the emotions of loss and change. Everything that Carole does shows CARING…Caring is the very essence of nursing: caring for, caring with and caring about! Carole follows her heart: Do no harm and Do what is right for her patient. She does not do this by herself. She brings in the TEAM to make things happen and develops a plan based on the needs of the patient. I frequently see her moving through her workday organizing and prioritizing interventions to benefit her patient and family. She thinks outside the box and pulls in needed resources to assure successful outcomes. Carole is the epitome of an exceptional and compassionate nurse who is a strong team member and mentor to new employees, new graduates and float nurses. Her standards are high and complement Kaiser’s Women and Children’s Services, Mission, Vision and Core Values. I have known and worked with Carole for more than 20 years and value her natural ability to CARE for the CHILDREN at Kaiser’s Women and Children’s Center. She has an exceptional depth of Pediatric Nursing knowledge. She has been a member of the Community based Child Death Review Committee for the past 13 years and a preceptor to new Assistant Nurse Manager, Students and new employees to the Pediatric Unit. She is chemo and Sedation qualified and is Relief Charge Nurse as needed. She is a charter Member of Zafia House. She does not run from problems, she runs to assist those in need. Thank you Carole for your passion and commitment to BEDSIDE NURSING and your ‘can do attitude’. Continue to lead your co-workers with your creative imagination and sensitive spirit….set the bar HIGH to individualize the Plan of Care to best serve our Pediatric patients and families.
