Dr. McKenzie is a wonderful nursing instructor and the reason I am a postpartum nurse today. The passion she has for OB nursing is apparent. I fell in love with OB nursing during my course and clinical with Dr. McKenzie. She went above and beyond to help her students understand the care of a pregnant patient. As a nurse midwife she was able to provide insight from a different perspective and presented information on holistic childbirth and postpartum care as well as hospital births. She arranged for a day for her students to learn holistic techniques to help women in childbirth such as therapeutic massage water births labor positions etc. I thought this was a neat experience and helped me see ways to go above and beyond when caring for a woman in labor. During clinical she made sure that each student got to experience a vaginal birth and a C-section. When it came time for my preceptorship in my last semester she went above and beyond to make sure I could be in OBGYN. Many of the stories she shared from her experience as a labor and delivery nurse have stuck with me today. Her mentorship is what has made me successful in my career today. She's always available by phone call or visit for any questions I may have or advice even now after I've graduated.
