In 2000, Dr. Carole Shea came to California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) as the Chair of the School of Nursing (SON). When a major restructuring occurred within the College of Professional Studies, Dr. Shea subsequently served as the Director of the School of Nursing. Under her leadership the SON programs were awarded full CCNE accreditation in 2003 and 2010. Additionally, the Family Nurse Practitioner program received BRN accreditation. Dr. Shea oversaw the creation of the pre-licensure Master's Entry Level Program (Clinical Nurse Leader) which also secured BRN approval. During her tenure, the CSUDH School of Nursing also successfully transitioned from a traditional classroom curriculum to an on-line delivery format. With the exception of the Clinical Nurse Leader program, the majority of nursing courses taught today at CSUDH are taught in an on-line format. In addition to her leadership role, Dr. Shea served as the CSUDH representative to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) for 10 years. She continued to publish both nationally and internationally with emphasis on nursing education, teaching, leadership, management, and coping with chronic illness. In summary, Dr. Shea has made significant and lasting contributions to the School of Nursing at CSUDH especially in the area of program and curriculum development. She is now semi-retired but continues to teach part-time in the CSUDH RN to BSN on-line program. In this role she continues to provide valuable insight to curriculum development and mentors junior faculty in their professional development. It is with great pride and gratitude that we, the faculty of the School of Nursing CSUDH, award the 2012-2013 DAISY Award to Dr. Carole Shea.
