Carolina coordinated with the maternity team to allow the mother and baby to have their first skin-to-skin moment.
A few weeks ago, we were massively transfusing a post-partum mother who was hemorrhaging and ultimately fighting for her life. Carolina not only provided exceptional care for the mother and her husband, but sought out teammates in maternity to acknowledge the needs of the newborn who was only a few hours old. Once the patient was stable, Carolina spearheaded getting the mom hooked up to a breast pump to keep her milk supply up and coordinated with the maternity team to allow the mother and baby to have their first skin-to-skin moment. Carolina went above the standard of care and not only put her patient first but thought about the wellbeing of their family as a whole beyond the walls of the hospital once discharged.
