She went above and beyond and made the necessary arrangements, taking into account that it was a Saturday and there were fewer staff compared to weekdays, she still made the effort to get him a superhero gown because she wanted him to feel good on his birthday and for it to match the entire theme of his room.
I am the mother of an 8-year-old boy who lives with a chronic condition, which requires frequent hospital visits, with stays ranging from a couple of days to several weeks due to severe infections and respiratory problems. I have been doing this for several years and consider the hospital my second home, as the care my son has received from the staff is impressive. However, I want to emphasize that most nurses are excellent at their jobs, but Carolina is undoubtedly among the best.
I was fortunate to have her as my son's nurse on his Birthday. As parents, you'll understand that it's not pleasant to spend such an important date in the hospital. However, Carolina made it special for my son and for us as a family. From the moment she entered the room and greeted us, she introduced herself very kindly and reminded me that she had cared for my son when he was little and that she hadn't had him for quite some time until that occasion. I couldn't believe she remembered him so much. I'm always in my son's room because I like to know everything that's happening around him and, above all, I'm very aware of sudden changes in his health, which happen frequently. When I need to leave the room for important reasons, I make sure that the nurse in charge of my son is watching over him, and this time was no exception with Carolina asking her to please observe my son and I mentioned that I would love to give him a bed bath when I returned to see if that would make him feel a little better, since he had had several very difficult days and physically he looked very tired, I just wanted to cheer him up a little during his day. To my surprise, I returned to find my son bathed and very comfortable in his bed, with a calm expression on his face. Upon closer inspection, I saw he was wearing a superhero gown. My family and I looked at each other as if wondering who had given it to him, and we learned that Carolina not only bathed my son and helped him feel comfortable, but was not content with just putting him in a gown like the ones he'd always worn. She went above and beyond and made the necessary arrangements, taking into account that it was a Saturday and there were fewer staff compared to weekdays, she still made the effort to get him a superhero gown because she wanted him to feel good on his birthday and for it to match the entire theme of his room. She was very present that day in every way, so much so that we sang the Happy Birthday song together, and she even invited other coworkers to sing with us as a family to make my son's birthday a beautiful one.
That's why it's an honor for me to nominate Carolina, as she's not only a knowledgeable and professional nurse, but she also possesses the values necessary for such an important profession. Thank you so much for your attention to my son; it meant so much to me and my family. You not only dedicated yourself to caring for your patient but also made sure that we as a family were well at all times.
